Black Women in Food Industry Report

Closing the gap in data, resources, and support for Black women entrepreneurs across the U.S. food landscape.

Led by Black Women in Food in partnership with Lilly Jan and Emma Roder at Cornell University, this study helps fill critical gaps in industry data while elevating the voices of Black women building across the food sector.

The report offers a snapshot of Black women’s entrepreneurship across the food ecosystem - capturing real experiences, business realities, and the structural challenges shaping growth today. Based on survey responses collected between April and July 2025, the research uses a descriptive, cross-sectional approach to identify patterns in entreprenerial models, funding strategies, operational scale, and support needs.
